Every year, a final tribute to summer and a spectacular kickoff into fall takes place near downtown Boise. Here, in Ann Morrison Park, dozens of whimsical hot air balloons fill the sky in a five-day kaleidoscope of color that can only be described as…well, indescribable.
The Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic, started in 1991, is a family-friendly event that’s not only a true throwback to a simpler time, but a breathtaking experience that is also uniquely Idaho. As these colorful balloons launch simultaneously they fill the sky of Idaho’s capital city with the heart and soul of our state, bring the community together, and create a vibrant and picture-perfect scene, fitting of the City of Trees. And — as these stunning photos show — it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before.
Every September, around 50 hot air balloons of every size, shape, and color imaginable fill the sky in the heart of Idaho's capital city.
Visitors and residents near the City of Trees can see them from nearly every corner of the valley, forming a breathtaking backdrop against Boise's already picturesque natural scenery.
Part of the festival also includes a contest for the "Governor's Cup," which incorporates a scavenger hunt-like challenge between balloons to test each pilot's aviation skills.
If you’ve never attended the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic before, make this your year! I guarantee you’ll absolutely love it and walk away with some fantastic photos and memories.
