Here in Idaho, we love our sweets. Luckily, there are plenty of shops throughout the Gem State that are willing to indulge us! One of our favorites is this nostalgic little ice cream parlor hiding out in Boise. This place has quite the history but it’s the ice cream itself that has made it a staple in the community. Delsa’s has been the go-to place for homemade ice cream and comfort food for generations. Today, they are more popular than ever and you’ll likely see a line out the door (especially on a warm day). However, you’ll soon find out that the wait is so worth it.
If you grew up in or around Boise, chances are you've heard of Delsa's Ice Cream Parlor. This quaint sweet shop has been around for decades and it doesn't look like they're going anywhere anytime soon. If you have yet to visit this iconic shop, you'll definitely want to stop by for your next sugar fix.
Few people realize just how far Delsa's goes back. The ice cream parlor was originally a farmhouse owned by Owen and Delsa Walton that was built back in 1922. Mrs. Walton would make homemade ice cream for the neighborhood kids and thus Delsa's Ice Cream Parlor was born.
By 1961, her ice cream had become so popular that the Waltons eventually had to build an entire building on the farm to accommodate customers. The parlor has gone through a variety of changes over the decades. Most recently, Delsa's had a huge makeover in which decor was upgraded and even more additions were made including a patio and a "party barn".
Delsa's has definitely made a name for itself throughout Boise and the surrounding communities. They've won numerous awards over the years including Treasure Valley's Best Local Ice Cream and Best In Idaho for USA Today's Top 50 Ice Cream Parlors.
It's easy to see what all the fuss is about! They boast more than 130 flavors of ice cream that is made at their on-site creamery. It doesn't get any fresher, or tastier, than this.
On top of serving delicious homemade ice cream, Delsa's also offers a menu full of iconic comfort food. Burgers, grilled cheese, salads, chicken strips...this is home style cooking at it's finest!
It's places like Delsa's that goes to show that ice cream will never go out of style. The next time you feel the need to satiate your sweet tooth, plan a trip to this vintage ice cream parlor and go wild.
You'll find Delsa's Ice Cream Parlor at 7923 W Ustick Rd, Boise, ID 83704.
