This quaint store has seen a lot during its time. First built in 1907 as the Donovan-Ninneman Mercantile Co., it's always acted as the neighborhood spot for a quick grocery pick-up or friendly hello. In 1934 it was known as Butler's Tourist Stop, and in the 90s it was the Hi-Hopes Market.
It's evident that the current owners, Ross and Jamie Davis, have put a lot of love into this little establishment. Inside the cafe, you'll find historic pictures of Hope and East Hope, including photographs of generations that have long passed. It's almost like a time capsule of this charming community.
It also serves as a classic grocery store where you can drop in quickly to pick up ingredients for the night's supper, or simply a snack for the road. Davis is sure to incorporate as many local goods as possible in order to support the community.
There's even a cafe inside where you can sit and enjoy a tasty sandwich, bowl of hot soup, breakfast burrito, or one of their many baked goods. Davis Grocery definitely has a neighborhood vibe, so expect to converse with some of the locals!
Additionally, the historic general store is always putting on community events like trivia, live music, and even wine tastings. Boasting a gorgeous view of the lake and mountains from the patio, it's definitely the type of place you can see yourself hanging out for a while.
