Stricker Ranch may look like just a bunch of old dilapidated buildings, but it's so much more than that. Located in Twin Falls County, this historic location contains all sorts of stories, especially of the haunted variety.
The ranch is comprised of the historic Stricker Home and Rock Creek Stage Station. Dating back to 1865, the place served as an early transportation center serving emigrants traversing the Oregon Trail.
Considered one of the first settlements in the Magic Valley, it's only natural that this place would be swamped with eerie ghost stories. Over the years, Stricker Ranch has become a popular spot for paranormal investigations and ghost hunts.
The ranch was run by a German immigrant named Herman Stricker and his wife Lucy Walgamott. They operated the station's store and even hosted many Oregon Trail travelers in their home. They often had to take care of the sick emigrants who passed through, and a cemetery near the ranch is a good reminder that many of them didn't make it.
Visitors often claim to seeing spooky apparitions around the ranch or the unexplained movement of stationary objects. At one point, the house became a hot spot for teenagers to break into and hold seances. Out of all the ghost stories, the creepiest of them all is a legend involving a gruesome murder.
The legend goes that Herman Stricker was brutally murdered by his wife with an ax. She then dragged Herman's bludgeoned body down the staircase—which would explain the odd stain located on the stair's steps.
The house definitely has a creepy vibe, but the legend of Herman's murder has long been debunked. He actually died peacefully in his sleep in 1920. However, many believe it's the ghosts of the Oregon Trail travelers who have stuck behind and left their impression on visitors.
