Everybody knows that Idaho is a paradise for skiers and snowboards during wintertime. With many top notch mountain resorts to choose from, many people who participate in winter sports count down the days until summer ends and the first snowfall begins. But what happens to those mountain resorts during the summer? Many people don’t realize that they are still open for summer time activities as well.
Silver Mountain Resort in Kellogg, Idaho is open all year long and although the snow covered mountains may be the resort’s highlight during winter, it’s the gondola ride that becomes the thing to do in summer! This isn’t just any gondola ride, though. It’s the longest and most scenic one in all of North America!
Kellogg is a small town of only about 2,000 people located in the panhandle region of Idaho. Located near the Coeur d'Alene National Forest, most people don't know that this tiny Idaho town is home to the longest gondola ride in all of North America!

The gondola traverses 3.1 miles of Idaho's beautiful mountain terrain, starting in downtown Kellogg and taking you all the way to the top of Silver Mountain.
The ride lasts over twenty minutes one way, and will lift you approximately 3,400 feet in elevation. The ride goes by quickly once you take off, so be sure to take in all of the scenic beauty around (and below) you!
The gondola runs daily during the wintertime, and on weekends during the summer. From June to September, the resort offers a "ride and dine" deal which includes both the gondola ride and a mountain top BBQ meal complete with live music!
There's really no better way of experiencing the amazing views Idaho has to offer. Can you imagine seeing the stunning mountain landscape from this vantage point? The only requirement is you must be able to handle heights!
The price to ride the gondola is $18 for adults, $14 for kids and seniors, and free for children under three years old. A small price to pay for a view you'll remember for a lifetime!
At the top of the mountain are several hiking trails to explore along with several mountain biking options. Take your time at the top while taking in the breathtaking scenery before you make the equally gorgeous trip back down. For more information about pricing, check out Silver Mountain's website here.
