Idaho just wouldn’t be the same without its many small towns. These destinations are where you’ll find countless hidden gems, lots of charm, and the perfect escape from reality. While we could recommend dozens of small towns in Idaho that are perfect for exploring any time of the year, when the weather starts to warm up, there is one we always love to visit — Rigby, Idaho. Not only is this friendly small town perfect for a weekend adventure, but it’s also a terrific destination if you are searching for a summer day trip.
Located in southeastern Idaho, just between Idaho Falls and Rexburg, is the charming small town of Rigby.
This Idaho town dates back to 1884 when members of the Church of Jesus Christ settled in the area. In 1903, the town was officially incorporated and today, approximately 5,200 people call it home.
Many individuals tend to drive right by Rigby on Highway 20 as they travel to bigger cities or even national parks like Yellowstone or Grand Teton. This small town is also on the way to state parks like Henry’s Lake State Park and Harriman State Park. But, when you finally stop to explore, you'll see it has the makings for a perfect summer day.
Of course, you can always spend your day browsing the downtown area. You’ll find quaint shops, bakeries, restaurants, boutiques, and more that are certainly worth a visit.

You can easily spend all day at Jefferson County Lake. This isn’t a large body of water, but it is perfect for lazy days on the water in a kayak or on a paddleboard.
You can also play on the sandy beaches, lay on the grassy areas, challenge a friend to a game of volleyball, or take a stroll on the walking trails.

And if you find that you want to turn your day trip in Rigby into an overnight adventure, Jefferson County Lake is also home to 50 campsites that are right by the water.
You can always stop by Rigby South Park, a pirate-themed playground complete with a pirate ship you can climb on and explore. This is a terrific destination for children to let their imaginations run wild.
