Idaho is home to some pretty unique dining locations. However, this is the first time we’ve seen a restaurant that is literally a boat. They call themselves “the floating food truck,” and that’s just what it is. During the summer, you’ll find these guys slinging burgers on the beautiful Lake Coeur d’Alene. When it’s too cold to go out onto the water, they anchor themselves at the dock. It sounds crazy, because it is. You’ll have to see this floating boat restaurant to believe it!
Lake Coeur d'Alene is an incredibly popular vacation spot. During the summer the lake is full of swimmers, boaters, paddlers, jet skiers, kayakers, and tubers. A day out on the lake can make you hungry. Well, that's where The Buoy comes in.
The Buoy came into existence in 2015, when the owners saw a need for satisfying hungry lake visitors. Options are pretty limited when you're busy having a good time outdoors, so the floating food truck was born!
The Buoy's owners are adamant about stating that their food is not "fast food." Every meal is made to order. All you have to do is call the phone number listed on the side of the boat to place your order. Your name will be called out on their loud speaker when your food is ready and you can start making your way to the boat.
The food is comprised of classic beach-type fare that is sure to satiate your hunger pains. They offer a variety of burgers (including a veggie burger) and hot dogs, all for a very reasonable price.
If you're not into burgers and hot dogs, they offer items such as the Buffalo Blue Chicken Sandwich (pictured below), quesadillas, tacos, and the Captain's Club Sandwich. They even offer a variety of refreshments including beer, wine, and soft drinks. It doesn't get much better than that.
Don't worry, you can still grab some delicious Buoy food even during the lake's off season. When summer is over, you can visit their "Shipwrecked" location which serves up delicious beach grub no matter the season.
No really, they are open rain or shine...or even snow.
There's really nothing like chowing down on a big, heaping cup of their homemade soup when it's cold out. It comes as no surprise that The Buoy has quickly turned into a local favorite.
You can visit the shipwrecked location now at 3670 Government Way in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. During the summer, you can visit them on the lake! For more information, check out their website
