Well, it’s official. Idaho has been recognized as the fastest growing state in the entire country by the U.S. Census Bureau. For many Idahoans, this is groan-worthy news. We enjoy our wonderful state being kept a secret, but it seems the cat is out of the bag. Idahoans are well aware that this is the best place to live and it looks like the rest of the country agrees.

Idaho was just named the nation's fastest growing state, according to Census Bureau Reports. The statement is based off of the fact that Idaho saw a 2.2% increase in population from July 1, 2016 to July 1, 2017.

In 2016, Idaho had a population of 1,680,026 people. In 2017 that number changed to a whopping 1,716,943 people.
Many attribute the population growth to Idaho's healthy and growing economy. The strong economy coupled with an amazingly low cost of living makes a pretty great place to live.

The majority of Idaho's growth in population was due to people moving to the state from other parts of the U.S.
However, Idaho wasn't the only state to see this kind of growth. Other western states such as Nevada, Washington, and Utah saw similar growth.

Nevada came in second to Idaho in percentage growth, growing 2% from 2016 to 2017. It looks like the rest of the country is finally figuring out the West is a pretty awesome place to live.

Ada and Canyon Counties are credited for most of Idaho's growth. In 2016, the two counties accounted for half of Idaho's population growth as a whole.
The Idaho Department of Labor even predicted that the state will continue to grow at an extraordinary rate through 2025.

Their projection predicts that Idaho will experience a growth rate that is nearly three times as high as the national growth rate. They also predict that the age group that will contain the largest growth are retirees age 65 and over. It looks like the Gem State is quickly becoming a popular retirement destination.
It really won't come as a surprise to most Idahoans that our state was just named the fastest growing. We are very familiar with just how amazing our state is. All we ask of newcomers is to keep Idaho great.
