Established over 40 years ago, the Thomas E. Ricks Gardens in Rexburg have been growing, flourishing, and changing since the day the first shrub was planted.

Before construction began on the gardens in 1977, the original site was primarily pasture land with portions of an old landfill and even a private airplane landing strip.

But you wouldn't know it from a morning stroll here. Or an afternoon one - they're beautiful no matter the time of day!

The gardens are set in the heart of the BYU-Idaho campus in Rexburg, and while many local students find them a popular spot to take a break from classes, the vibrant, inspiring grounds are open to the community as well.

But don't mistake this beautiful retreat for your grandma's flower beds. This is one of the finest show gardens you'll ever step foot in.

And every year, it gets a little more beautiful.

Enrolled students continuously add to and revive the gardens as part of various semester projects. In fact, every inch of the vegetation was planted by a student, and the gardens themselves are maintained by them as well.

Here, you'll find gorgeous waterfalls and ponds…

A picnic pavilion and formal European garden...

And multiple raised flower and produce beds, along with a dense conifer garden.

It's shaded, breathtakingly beautiful, and perfect for a picnic, day trip, or special occasion.

And the best part? It looks just as phenomenal in the winter as it does during the warm seasons.
