There hasn’t been an operating drive-in theater in North Idaho for decades, but that has officially changed! In order to combat boredom during this social distancing era, the Kibbie Dome at the University of Idaho has temporarily transformed into an old-fashioned drive-in movie theater. They started showing movies for the first time last month and the entire experience has proven to be a hit among residents. If you live in the area or within driving distance, definitely be sure to take advantage of this unique opportunity!
Movie theaters are slowly but surely opening back up all around Idaho, but it turns out there's a temporary solution for Moscow residents who just can't wait. The Kibbie Dome has temporarily turned into a drive-in movie theater, and it's totally free!
The free drive-in theater is the result of the University of Idaho, City of Moscow, and Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre all teaming up to provide local families with some much-needed entertainment. It's not a permanent thing by any means but local families have definitely been grateful for the opportunity to get out there and enjoy a movie with loved ones.
The Palouse hasn't seen a drive-in movie theater for decades, so this is definitely a welcome attraction. They started showing movies every Saturday at 8:00 p.m., in a gravel parking lot (Lot 57) at the Kibbie Dome. The event is free, but space is only available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Of course, social distancing guidelines have been put in place to ensure that everybody stays healthy and safe. Cars are asked to park at least 6-feet away from each other. This way guests can have their windows open, sit in their truck beds, etc.
The set-up has also allowed for several local high schools to enjoy commencement ceremonies at the Kibbie Dome over the last month. You can learn more about upcoming shows and parking at the drive-in at the event's official website .
There's no news yet about whether or not the Moscow Drive-In will continue past June, but the event organizers have confirmed they'll continue their Screen on the Green series in July and August that also takes place at U of I campus. Keep an eye on Vandal Entertainment for updates and enjoy a free movie this summer!
