During the winter months, Idaho has some of the best snow for building snowmen and hosting snowball fights. However, in January, some of this Idaho snow takes a unique shape. Located in the small town of Driggs in southeastern Idaho is the highly-anticipated Snowscapes event. This snow sculpting competition in Idaho is quite mesmerizing, and it’s the perfect winter day trip destination in Idaho.
Snowscapes is a free public art competition that is a little chilly, yet very delightful. This friendly competition takes place at the Driggs City Plaza each winter.
Beginners and expert snow sculptors can compete in this competition. Their masterpieces transform Driggs City Plaza into the most incredible winter art display in Idaho.
Each team has four days to turn a large block of snow into a masterpiece. Many of these teams need the entire four days to complete their project as their sculptures are large and feature many intricate details.
This competition is an entire community event. A few days before the competition begins, a community snow stomping activity takes place. Individuals are invited to stomp on large containers of snow to prepare the snow for sculpting.
During Snowscapes, you can also participate in free snow sculpting workshops, a community fun zone, and more. Individuals of all ages are also encouraged to attend the event and vote for their favorite snow sculptures.
This is definitely one winter activity in Idaho that is quite spectacular and a great way to enjoy the colder months of the year. In fact, attending Snowscapes in Driggs may become one of your favorite winter traditions.
