Add some sweetness to your life and take on the Idaho Donut Trail for a day of driving around and enjoying the best donuts in the Gem State. This road trip is based in southern Idaho, so it only tackles a fraction of the fantastic donut shops that call our state home. However, we think you’ll be more than happy with the pit stops on this super sweet trip! Check out the interactive Google Map where you can see the full itinerary and customize it to your liking.
1. Goatstar Donuts & Coffee - Caldwell
First up, we're heading to Goatstar Donuts & Coffee in Caldwell, Idaho! Named for the acronym G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time, for those who aren't in the know), we think you'll find that there's definitely some truth to the name. The family-owned donut shop prides itself on being the best at what they do. With a wide selection of fancy and regular donuts, it makes for the perfect starting point to the Idaho Donut Trail.
2. Country Donuts - Boise
Country Donuts is next up on the list and a great option for those who love good old-fashioned classic donuts. This hole-in-the-wall shop is most famous for its bear claws, fritters, and maple bars, although you can't go wrong with whatever donut you land on. Customers especially love the size of these giant donuts! Plus, it's not just a donut shop. It's also a restaurant and market that specializes in Egyptian cuisine.
3. Guru Donuts - Boise
For this part of the road trip, we're headed to the heart of downtown Boise where you'll find Guru Donuts. This funky shop has made quite the name for itself since it started as a pop-up in 2012. Now located inside of the historic Idanha Building at 10th and Main Street, Guru Donuts is popular for its unique flavor combinations and fun vibe. They always boast a wide selection of yeast-raised (vegan) donuts, cake donuts, and even potato donuts. For your first visit, we recommend the Hipsterberry (blackberry, blueberry, and lavender glaze), the Alice in Wonderland (vanilla glazed and dipped in birthday cake crumb), or the O.G. (original vanilla bean Guru Glaze.)
4. DK Donuts - Boise
Funky and fun flavors are great and all, but nothing beats a classic donut-and-coffee style of donut shop. That's exactly what you'll get just down the street at DK Donuts. This locally-owned donut shop is a Boise institution and has been serving up fresh donuts every morning for decades. Since opening at its original site in the 1980s, DK Donuts has opened two other locations in Meridian and downtown Eagle, with a fourth location (also in Boise) on its way!
5. The Donut Tree and Bakery - Mountain Home
We're officially headed out of Boise and southeast towards the small city of Mountain Home. This is where you'll find The Donut Tree and Bakery. The family-owned business has been operating for just a few years but has already become a favorite among local donut enthusiasts. Fritters, sticky buns, donuts, croissants - this quaint bakeshop does it all!
6. Jim Bob's Bakery - Twin Falls
For our last stop, we're headed to Jim Bob's Bakery in Twin Falls. This beloved donut shop is often touted as the best donut shop in town and we can easily see why. The shop's raised donuts are beloved for their airy texture, crispy outside, and the perfect sweetness. In fact, customers are encouraged to stop by early because they are known to sell out!
