There’s definitely no shortage of unique activities and events to check out during the holiday season in Idaho. Every community in the Gem State celebrates the holidays in their own way, but the city of Caldwell is home to one of the most unique celebrations we’ve seen. Every year, the city puts on a humongous Winter Wonderland festival, in which the highlight of the evening is the lighting of Indian Creek. If you’re the type of person that likes to seek out the biggest and best light displays our state has to offer, then this epic creek lighting is simply not to be missed!
It's pretty typical for towns to hold their own Christmas tree lightings every year, but there's one city in Idaho that goes way above and beyond a regular ol' tree lighting. Every December, the city of Caldwell transforms into a dazzling display of lights, complete with a stunning creek lighting!
Indian Creek flows right through the heart of downtown Caldwell, making it the perfect feature to decorate with thousands upon thousands of colorful Christmas lights. In fact, this year the creek and surrounding area will be decorated with over a million lights in total.
The display will be up all season long for visitors and residents to enjoy, but an official creek lighting will take place at the 12th Annual Winter Wonderland Festival which is scheduled for Friday, November 22 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The family-friendly festival is completely free and it's a community event that's not to be missed. The creek lighting will happen at 7:30 p.m. (they even thrown in a Christmas tree lighting, for good measure), but that's not all this fun-filled evening has to offer.
The festival will also boast plenty of musical performances, from traditional carolers to big bands and choirs. Additionally, Santa will be available for visits and photos at Indian Creek Plaza.
A variety of local vendors will be at the festival selling handmade items or hot beverages to warm you up on the chilly winter night. All the while, you'll find yourself completely mesmerized by the magical atmosphere of Caldwell all lit up under the night sky!
Caldwell's Winter Wonderland Festival gets more and more popular with every year, so attendees are encouraged to park at the nearby O'Connor Field House and Caldwell Events Center in order to take the free shuttle to downtown. Learn more about this spectacular creek lighting here.
