There is something special about stepping foot inside a library. The hundreds of books on the shelves are each inviting you to escape reality and enter a whole new world. While there are some pretty incredible libraries all throughout the Gem State that offer a place of quiet, learning, and reading, there is one library that seems to stand above the rest — the Coeur d’Alene Public Library.
Located on Front Avenue in downtown Coeur d’Alene is this public library that is quite eye-catching.
In 1904, the Coeur d’Alene Woman’s Club was established with one purpose: to sponsor a public library for the city. There were 48 women who were dedicated to this cause.
In February of 1905, the club began gathering books for the library, and by April, this city’s public library first opened its doors in the store of E.B. Keller and Company.

The library had its ups and downs over the years, but by 1927, library records show that it had more than 15,500 patrons. In 2007, the dedication was held for the new Coeur d’Alene Public Library, which is the beautiful building you can enter today.
The Coeur d’Alene Library also hosts events all year long from story times and workshops to book signings with popular authors. There really is something for every member of the family.
If you are searching for a little extra help downloading electronic books, receiving book recommendations, or working on a document in the computer lab, you can even schedule a librarian to assist with this library's book-a-librarian service.

Whether you are a book lover or you simply want someplace new to explore and learn, the beautiful Coeur d’Alene library should be at the top of the list. It really is a fun day trip destination filled with much to see, things to do, and so many literary treasures.
Is there another standout library in the Gem State? If so, let us know in the comments! And, if you are looking for something else to do while in northern Idaho, take a drive on the gorgeous Lake Coeur d’Alene Scenic Byway.
