It all starts at Thompson Pass, a historic gateway between the Gem State and Big Sky Country. To find it, take I-90 eastbound to Kingston, Idaho. Take exit 43, turn left, then turn right and follow the Coeur d'Alene River for 23 miles. Turn right onto Prichard Creek Road and follow it to Thompson Pass.
The trailhead can be found at the parking lot at the very top of Thompson Pass. From here, the trail quickly passes over into Montana and begins a steady climb to the first lake.
The entire Blossom Lakes Trail is 5.5-miles out-and-back and is rated as moderate. It's well-maintained and well-shaded, making it a great option for a day hike. It isn't too challenging but still provides plenty of opportunity for adventure.
You'll reach Lower Blossom Lake after approximately three miles. It's the most popular of the two lakes since it's the first one you can access on the trail. It also boasts a variety of lakeside campsites and plenty of places where you can wade in the lake's refreshing waters.
Continue on the trail and you'll soon reach Upper Blossom Lake. It's equally as stunning as Lower Blossom, offering the most incredible views of Lolo National Forest. The lake's crystal-clear waters are a marvel, as well!
