Sometimes a sweet escape from reality is all you need. Lucky for us, Idaho is full of amazing getaway towns—places where the living is easy and we can forget about the stresses of everyday life. One of Idaho’s towns just got a huge shout-out by Expedia.com in a list they recently released of the “Best Places To Escape In Every State”. The town they featured for Idaho may surprise you, but you’ll probably find yourself agreeing with their choice.
The small town of Salmon just got some much deserved recognition since it was named the "Best Place To Escape" in Idaho by Expedia. Salmon is a vastly underrated town when it comes to getaway destinations, but you'll probably find yourself planning your next vacation to this place pretty soon.
Due to its remote location, Salmon doesn't get a lot of attention. However, it's the town's sense of isolation that makes it such a great place to get away from it all. The town is a gateway to some of the most incredible wilderness areas that Idaho has to offer.
Abundant wildlife and natural beauty completely surround the tiny town of just 3,000 people. This is the type of place that reminds you why it's so great to live in Idaho.
The town's main "attraction" is of course the mighty and beautiful Salmon River. The River of No Return is nationally recognized as one of the most idyllic fishing locations. And you definitely don't want to pass up a guided excursion of the river with one of the area's many rafting companies.
Don't think that peaceful getaways are only for the warmer seasons. Salmon is equally as enticing during the winter. Skiers will be happy to know that this area contains some of the most remote cross-country skiing opportunities that our state has to offer.
Not to mention the numerous hot springs that can be found in and around Salmon. Goldbug Hot Springs is located just 20 miles south of town and is a seriously epic place to take a soak while taking in the breathtaking mountain scenery.
Don't forget to stop by the Sacajawea Interpretive, Cultural, and Educational Center where you can learn all about the area's history. After all, Salmon was the birthplace of Sacajawea and played a prominent role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
