We may be a little biased but here in the Gem State, we have some of the most beautiful lakes in the entire country. All throughout Idaho, you will find gorgeous large lakes like Priest Lake and Lake Coeur d’Alene and even some hidden lakes with views that are intoxicating. Today, we want to take you to Bloomington Lake, a small lake in Idaho that is one of the most beautiful. However, to reach this gorgeous destination, you must be willing to put in a little effort.
Bloomington Lake is located in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest in southern Idaho. To reach this lake, you must tackle the 1.6-mile out-and-back hiking trail.
This trail closes each winter. However, regardless of when you visit, we recommend a high-clearance and four-wheel-drive vehicle to reach the trailhead as the road can be quite rough. You will want to visit the Forest Service website before you head on this hike to ensure the trail is accessible.
The Bloomington Lake Trail is rated easy and is one hiking trail the entire family will enjoy.
Along your hike, enjoy the meadows and the wildflowers. You can also capture incredible mountain views. This hike will make you fall in love with Idaho all over again.
Not too far into the hike, you’ll come to a body of water. Don’t be fooled as this is not Bloomington Lake. You’ll need to go a little bit farther until you reach one of the most beautiful lakes in Idaho.
Once you reach Bloomington Lake, prepare yourself for some exquisite beauty. The lake is surrounded by mountains and cliff walls. The view almost doesn’t seem real.
Be aware that this hike can become quite busy, particularly during the weekends. It also isn’t uncommon to find a rope swing by the lake, but the water is typically very cold so plan accordingly. You can learn more about this trail, including finding a trail map, on the AllTrails website.
