Calling all history buffs! There’s a museum in eastern Idaho that is dedicated to not just telling you about aviation history but showing it. Located inside of a massive hangar in Rexburg, the Legacy Flight Museum is home to dozens of historic aircraft that you can see up close and personal. The museum pays tribute to the planes that military veterans have flown throughout history, and seeing them is an experience that any history or airplane enthusiast is bound to love.
Whether you have an interest in aviation history or you're just looking to kill a few hours, a visit to the Legacy Flight Museum is bound to inspire. This aviation museum in Rexburg is a fascinating destination where you can get up close and personal with dozens of aircraft and it's an awesome experience.
The brain child of Rexburg's John Bagley, the flight museum was opened in 2006 to serve as a destination where guests can physically see the aircraft that played an important role in military history. It's definitely worth a family field trip!
The museum is open year round; on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from Labor Day to Memorial Day, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. six days a week from Memorial Day to Labor Day. It's also available by appointment on days that it's not open to the public.
The museum itself is located inside of a hangar and it's giant . Inside the hangar are all sorts of aircraft, each of which has a name and story behind it. Getting to know the history behind each plane is definitely a large part of the fun.
Among some of the aircraft you'll see are the P-63 King Cobra, the Boeing Stearman, and the owner's very own "Mormon Mustang." Pictured here is the North American T-6 Texan. First flown in 1938, it was known as "The Pilot Maker" in reference to its prominent role in preparing pilots for combat during World War II.
Additionally, pricing is relatively cheap, making it the ideal spot for a family day trip. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors/college students/military, $3 for children, and free for kids 8 and under. There are also discounts for large groups and families.
