When it comes to overnight experiences, you’ll find that the Gem State is full of historic hotels. After all, you never know what unusual experiences you’ll have when you sleep at this nearly 100-year-old hotel!
Located in the quaint community of Orofino, the Helgeson Place Hotel is a historic spot to spend the night. At nearly a century old, the hotel is home to plenty of stories..and rumor has it it's allegedly haunted, as well!
Initially opened in 1924, the Helgeson is a great option for visitors seeking out the natural beauty and recreational opportunities that Orofino has to offer. Although historic, the hotel is perfectly up-to-date and boasts a cozy modern vibe.
Believe it or not, the Helgeson was THE place to be back during its early days. Known for its world-class service and inviting atmosphere, the 58-room hotel quickly became a popular community gathering place. It was like a little slice of elegance in this otherwise rustic community.
The hotel even boasted a ballroom in the back of the building which was open every Saturday evening for ballroom dancing, and hosted many lively parties, dances, and concerts. Staying here today, you can't help but feel the energy of all the people this hotel must've seen over the years—in more ways than one.
As is true with most buildings this age, there are plenty of ghost stories floating around the Helgeson. Most notably, a number of guests have reported seeing the apparition of a woman outside the hotel at nighttime.
Additionally, some guests have reported unexplained noises such as banging, footsteps, and moaning. Considering the hotel's old age, we can't help but wonder if this unexplained phenomena is being caused by some of the hotel's guests from yesteryear.
Regardless, you shouldn't let a few ghost stories scare you away from spending the night at the historic Helgeson. After all, it's by far one of the most fascinating places to sleep in Orofino. Just be aware that if you do end up staying here, you may hear a thing or two go bump in the night.
