After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
Nestled on the slopes of Mount Haleakala is a gorgeous landscape known as upcountry Maui. This picturesque area is known for its incredible paniolo culture and is home to not only sweeping, panoramic views and plenty of history, but a remote cabin-like restaurant that serves up mouthwatering food and deserves your attention.
Measuring in at 18,000 acres stretching from the Pacific Ocean to approximately 6,000 feet in elevation, Ulupalakua Ranch is Maui's second largest cattle ranch. Founded in the mid-1800s, Ulupalakua was once one of Hawaii's greatest producers of sugarcane and was even a favorite destination of King Kalakaua and his royal party.
Today, you'll find a little bit of everything at this unique ranch, but our favorite spot is by far the Ulupalakua Ranch Store & Grill, a slice of paniolo history just waiting to be discovered.
Ulupalakua is known for their truly mouthwatering burgers, and it's easy to see why. If you've never enjoyed a burger with grilled pineapple and oozing cheddar, you're totally missing out.
All burgers can be made with either beef, lamb, or elk, all locally-raised right here on Maui. This Black & Blue burger is topped with blue cheese and bacon — yum!
While their burger creations are mouthwatering, you'll find a true taste of Hawaii here as well. This mouthwatering loco moco is paired with all of your favorite Hawaiian plate lunch sides: rice, macaroni salad, and kimchi.
Each dish is created using local ingredients and features unique flavors you won't find anywhere else. Case in point, this barbecue chili burger paired with a cup of chicken papaya soup.
While you wait for your meal, do some shopping at the ranch store! You'll find everything from western wear to branded merchandise to quirky souvenirs, work from local artists and Maui made items.
Though located in a remote area of Maui, the Ulupalakua Ranch Grill is well worth the drive. This is one cabin restaurant you'll want to visit as soon as possible.
The Ulupalakua Ranch Store is located at 14800 Piilani Hwy, Kula, HI 96790, and is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information, visit their website or follow them on Facebook. Have you ever visited this ranch store and grill? Share your experiences with us in the comments below!
The Ulupalakua Ranch Grill & Store is also the perfect spot to enjoy a mouthwatering meal after an afternoon of wine tasting next door at MauiWine.
