After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
When one thinks of Hawaiian music, they likely start hearing ukulele music in their head. After all, the ukulele originated in the 19th century as a Hawaiian adaptation of the Portuguese machete, a small guitar-like instrument introduced to the islands by immigrants. In celebration of Hawaii’s favorite instrument, the annual Ukulele Festival is one of our favorite summer traditions, and you’ll want to head on over there this weekend, Saturday, July 21, 2019, to experience the fun for yourself.
If you’re looking for a fun activity to fill your Saturday and live on Oahu, there’s no better place to go than Kapiolani Park, where you will find the 49th annual Ukulele Festival, the largest ukulele festival of its kind in the world.
The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2019, at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand in Waikiki.
There’s truly no better way to spend a summer day than soaking up the sunshine or basking in the shade of the park’s ironwood and monkeypod trees while listening to upbeat, infectious ukulele music performed by professionals and keiki alike.
Of course, you'll find more than just live musical performances here: Ukulele displays and giveaways, food booths, lessons, and keiki activities are also available.
Families, ukulele fans, and tourists alike will love attending this quintessential Hawaiian summer event — and the best part is that it’s entirely free!
The event draws thousands from across the island, and to keep up with the crowds, free parking and a shuttle is available from Kapiolani Community College.
While the Waikiki event is the original, Ukulele Festival Hawaii has taken their unique festival on the road to the neighboring islands of Hawaii, Kauai, and Maui in response to popular demand the ukulele renaissance in Hawaii. You can find the dates and information for these events on their website below.
Address: Kapiolani Park Bandstand, 2686-2882 Kalakaua Ave, Honolulu, HI 96815
