With more than 10 years of experience as a professional writer, Megan holds a degree in Mass Media from her home state of Minnesota. After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
From sushi to saimin and Korean barbecue to Asian fusion cuisine, the Hawaiian Islands are undoubtedly home to some of the best Asian food in the country — after all, Hawaii is home to various Asian influences and is closer to Asia than the rest of America. While there is no way to ever feature all of the fantastic Asian eateries our islands have to offer, today we’re sharing one of our favorite Thai restaurants. And the best part amidst these uncertain times? The takeout is out of this world delicious.
Welcome to Thai Lao! With two Oahu locations — in Kapolei and Pearl City — delicious takeout is never too far out of reach, especially if you live on the leeward side of the island.
As soon as you walk through the doors, you’ll be enamored by the tantalizing aroma and artistic eastern decor. Whether you dine in or order takeout, this is family-friendly dining at its best — after all, this is a family-owned and operated establishment.
From spring and summer rolls to fried calamari, basil shrimp salad, and larb (a traditional Lao and northern Thai dish), you’ll want to start your meal with an appetizer.
You’ll discover soups, stir-frys, noodles, rice, curry, and more on this extensive menu. Choose from yellow, green, and red curries, Thai ginger soup, lemongrass stir-fry, pad Thai, basil or jasmine fried rice, steamed fish, and so, so much more.
The pineapple curry with chicken and jasmine sticky rice is my personal favorite, but you’ll want to order takeout at least a dozen times to try everything they have to offer.
The Kapolei location is open Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Orders can be placed over the phone at 808-674-2262. The Pearl City location is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. You can place orders by calling 808-456-8088.
