After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
When looking for a new restaurant or cafe to visit in the Aloha State, you undoubtedly look for three things: mouthwatering food and coffee, a unique ambiance, and an unforgettable experience. While the Hawaiian Islands are home to countless incredible restaurants that match this description, today we’re featuring a sunny little spot that stands out in a crowd.
Nestled along Oahu’s north shore on a plumeria farm is the Sunrise Shack, a humble little spot with a bright yellow exterior, scrumptious healthy options, and plenty of Aloha spirit.
Opened in 2016 by the Smith Brothers (Alex, Koa, and Travis) and one of their friends, Koa Rothman, as an extension of the fruit stand they opened to fund a surfing trip to Australia, the Sunrise Shack serves up healthy and delicious coffee and treats with a side of enchantment.
Known for their bullet coffee, the Sunrise Shack is the perfect place to go for your morning caffeine fix or an afternoon pick-me-up. This organic coffee lightly blended with coconut oil, MCT oil, and grass-fed butter can be served hot or iced. It's said to give you all the normal effects of caffeine without the crash and comes in a variety of flavors — from traditional mocha or vanilla flavors to almond butter and cinnamon. Cold press juices, kombucha, and teas round out the beverage menu.
From traditional acai bowls to unique flavor combinations, their smoothie bowls are absolutely to-die-for, but their sandwiches, wraps, and salads are all quite delicious, as well. No matter what you order from the Sunrise Shack, you’re sure to be satisfied.
This papaya bowl is filled with peanut butter, local granola, banana, blueberries, chia seeds, cacao nibs, hemp seeds, and coconut flakes drizzled with organic honey. Our mouths are watering just thinking about it.
Hawaii is home to many roadside eateries, but this petite yellow shack is easily one of our favorites. So, what are you waiting for? No trip to Oahu's north shore is complete without a stop at the Sunrise Shack.
The Sunrise Shack is located at 59-158 Kamehameha Hwy., Haleiwa, HI 96712, and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit their website or follow them on Facebook.
