I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Sunflowers may not be the first species of flower that comes to mind when anyone thinks of Hawaii. The Aloha State is better known for tropical flowers like birds of paradise, hibiscus, and plumeria, but there are several farms with fields of sunflowers growing as far as the eye can see. Waimanalo Country Farms in Oahu is one such farm and its Drive-Thru Sunflower is one you don’t want to miss this spring.
Waimanalo Country Farms is a 53-acre farm with views of both the Pacific and the Ko'olau Mountains. As if the scenery couldn't get any more beautiful, the sunflower fields are in bloom.
The 2021 event looks a little bit different than in past years. Instead of allowing visitors to freely walk around the fields, the farm has turned into a drive-thru event.
During your reserved time, you will make your way slowly by car through designated pathways to view the gorgeous fields in a setting between mountain and ocean.
It's a truly breathtaking sight! But just because it's a drive-thru event this year, doesn't mean you have to stay in your car the entire time.
At the designated photo op field, you will be allotted 20 minutes to get lost among thousands of beautiful, cheery sunflowers and snap pics by the VW Bus, a bathtub, and other props.
Use your time wisely because once those 20 minutes are up, it's time to get back in your car and move along!
Although you're not allowed to pick sunflowers while out frolicking in the field taking photos, you can stop by the Drive-Thru Country Market Stand on the way out and purchase some at $3 per stem.
The cost for the drive-thru sunflower event for ages three and older is $10 cash or $10.84 if paying by credit card. Paying customers will receive a free choice beverage as well! Children ages two and under are free.
Will you make your way to Waimanalo Country Farms for its Drive-Thru Sunflower event this spring? Visit the website to book your reservation and check for event rules and updates.
