After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
If there’s one beverage Hawaii is known for, it’s coffee. After all, Hawaii is the only American state with land able to grow coffee. And while we love all of the incredible coffee farms you’ll find across the Hawaiian Islands — there is one variety that has become world-famous. Grown in a small section of fertile volcanic soil on Hawaii Island’s Kona coast, Kona coffee is definitely a cut above any coffee you can find, well, pretty much anywhere. To experience some of the best coffee this famous region has to offer, head to the oldest organic farm in the state.
Welcome to Rooster Farms! Not only is this the oldest certified organic Kona coffee farm in the entire world, but the coffee has won several awards throughout the years.
Tucked away off the beaten path and located up a winding, steep road, this 6-acre farm nestled at 1,600 feet in elevation will give guests a glimpse into what a real, non-touristy, Kona coffee farm is like.
Free tours are offered by appointment only and allow guests the opportunity to learn about Kona coffee and the farm’s history while seeing the farm and processing facilities up close. You’ll even get a glimpse of the vintage roaster.
Don’t forget about the coffee! Guests will enjoy individual tastings of Rooster Farms’ medium and dark roast coffees and can also purchase beans for themselves.
So, what are you waiting for? If you’re looking to get away from it all and experience the real Hawaii, a visit to Rooster Farms will impress anyone who loves history, scrumptious coffee, and phenomenal views.
Tours at Rooster Farms are offered by appointment only, and you can set yours up by calling (808) 315-5224 or emailing konarooster@gmail.com.
