There is perhaps no dish more uniquely Hawaiian than poke, a raw fish salad that usually consists of cubed aku (an oily tuna), he’e (octopus), or ahi (yellowfin tuna) marinated with sea salt, soy sauce, sesame oil, limu seaweed, and chili powder. The delicious dish is currently taking over the mainland, though Hawaii obviously still does it best and you might be surprised to discover one of our new favorite poke spots is brought to you by the one and only Foodland.
Welcome to Redfish Poke Bar! Opened last month in Honolulu’s Kaka’ako neighborhood by our favorite local grocery chain: Foodland. This new poke counter and bar is committed to serving up neer-frozen ahi poke and so, so much more.
Defined by its rich red color, high-quality ahi poke is arguably the most popular variety in the islands and perhaps the menu here at Redfish. Makes sense, given the eatery’s namesake.
As soon as you step foot inside Redfish, you will be greeted by the sleek poke bar, where you can either dine in or grab a quick lunch or dinner on your way home.
Customization is easy: choose either a one-choice regular bowl or the two-choice deluxe bowl, select your base of white rice, brown rice, or salad, then pick your poke and side dish. Then, it’s time to let loose with unlimited toppings.
The menu also features a variety of small and medium plates perfect for sharing, from kalua pork fried rice to a local spin on the traditional BLT, which features bacon, seared ahi, avocado, lettuce, and tomatoes drizzled with a citrus pepper aioli.
Malasada bites and craft cocktails, as well as the modern retro artwork and cozy booth seating, make dining in all the more enticing. We can’t blame you for wanting to try the Li Hing Sher-Li, which combines white li hing, strawberries, and Coke.

Redfish Poke Bar is located at SALT at Kaka’ako and is open for dining Sunday through Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12 a.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. — no reservations are required.
