Oneawa Hills in Kaneohe Bay is one of the best places to lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails on our beautiful islands.  With near-perfect summer weather year-round, and because you’ll find countless hiking trails crisscrossing the Hawaiian Islands — from coastal paths to treks through the jungle and everything in between — it can be difficult to decide on where you will go this weekend. But if you live on Oahu, the weather looks promising, and you have a bit of hiking experience, you’ll want to consider Oneawa Hills.

Outdoor Fun In Hawaii

What are some of the best outdoor activities in Hawaii?

  • Liliuokalani Park and Gardens (Hilo): Take a walk along the ornate paths of the largest authentic ornamental Japanese garden. You'll think you're in Japan as you stroll along Hilo Bay in this enchanted space that is free to explore. It was named for Hawaii's last reigning monarch Queen Liliʻuokalani. Walk on arching bridges that guide you over fishponds, explore the rock gardens and historic pagodas, and visit a teahouse, and the decorative Japanese stone lanterns.
  • Salvation Army Kroc Center (Oahu): This 200,000-square-foot activity center is the largest of its type in Hawaii. Located on 15 acres in Kapolei, the center offers such amenities as a health and wellness center, group exercise, a lap pool and a leisure pool with waterslides and a lazy river, worship and performing arts center, and a fitness center. Take a class, join a pickleball game, or climb the rock wall.
  • Rainbow gum trees (Maui): We have all seen trees in our time, but some are unforgettable, such as the rainbow eucalyptus trees in Maui. Arguably the best specimens are found near Mile Marker 7 along the picturesque Hana Highway where you'll see about 20 with more up the road. This "painted forest" is worthy of a stop and some moments of consideration to see the colorful and natural process. As the tree's bark peels away it reveals vibrant hues, and each tree displays different colors at the same time creating an abstract painting in the woods.
