The Hawaiian Islands are home to approximately 750 miles of stunning coastline, and while we love the hundreds of beaches that line the shore, lately, we can’t get enough of coastal hikes. Across our beautiful islands, you will find some of the world’s best hiking trails and we truly believe that there is nowhere better than the Aloha State to lace up your hiking boots, but if you’re looking for proof, here it is.
Nestled on Maui’s northeastern coast between Waihee and Kapalua is the Ohai Trail Loop, an incredibly scenic and short hike you’ll want to check off of your Hawaii hiking bucket list as soon as possible.
Meandering along the coast, the views you’ll find along the Ohai Trail Loop are truly second to none. Sweeping panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and rock formations along the Hawaiian coast will take your breath away.
You'll even find striking views of the nearby Kahakuloa Head, a rock formation that is approximately 646 feet tall and said to be the spot from which Kahekili was said to leap 200 feet into the water below every morning before breakfast at a spot called "Kahekili’s Leap."
The highlight is found at the midpoint of the trail when you stumble across a solitary bench. Take a seat, enjoy a snack, and watch whales and seabirds frolic along the coast.
Perhaps the best part about the Ohai Trail Loop? Found along an often overlooked stretch of coastline and definitely overshadowed by the nearby Nakalele Blowhole, you might find that you have the entire trail to yourself.
Watch the waves crash against the shore, soak up some sunshine, and enjoy the solitude and sweeping views you'll find along this stunning stretch of coastline.
With lush greenery, the sparkling waters of the Pacific, unique rock formations, and a short, easy to follow path, it truly doesn't get much better than this. So, what are you waiting for? Adventure awaits along the Ohai Trail Loop.
