After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
With approximately 750 miles of stunning coastline, the Hawaiian Islands are easily home to some of the greatest beaches in the world, including several amazing stretches of fine, pristine, white sand that look as though they are straight from the pages of your favorite Travel magazine. While we love the popular white sand beaches – like Waimanalo, Waikiki, and Ka’anapali – as much as the next person, there’s one beach on Oahu’s leeward coast with fine, white sand that is severely underrated: Nanakuli Beach.
Featuring crystalline blue waters and backed by lush mountains, this magical stretch of fine, white sand is just moments away from the popular Ko’olina lagoons, but feels worlds away from the beaches full of tourists found across Oahu.
Located between two limestone points and nestled between the Pacific Ocean and Farrington Hawaii, Nanakuli Beach Park covers approximately 40 acres and is home to a 500-foot long and 125-foot wide stretch of white and golden sand perfect for your next beach day.

From snorkeling and scuba diving to boogie boarding, canoeing, and - of course - sunbathing, there’s an activity for everyone to enjoy at this stunning beach.
But pristine, white sand isn’t the only thing you’ll find along this stunning stretch of coastline. On the edge of the beach, you’ll find this picturesque rocky area with phenomenal views.
Rumor has it that the luminous "Mermaid Cave" is also located near Nanakuli Beach, and if you’re able to find it - or have someone take you there - you are sure to create a memory that will last a lifetime.
The park is also home to twelve camping sites obtainable by permit, as well as picnic tables, a grassy field, baseball and softball fields, a children’s playground, and basketball court.
You won’t find much shade on this beach - and because the western coast is often hot and dry - it is advised you pack up plenty of water and sunscreen for your visit.
Also beware of the coast’s strong shorebreak and often dangerous currents - swimming at this beach in the winter is ill-advised, and while the waves become more manageable in the summer months, you should still be careful.
