With more than 10 years of experience as a professional writer, Megan holds a degree in Mass Media from her home state of Minnesota. After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
With sweeping panoramic views, incredible white sand beaches, the best hiking around, charming lighthouses and even awe-inspiring coastal tide pools, there is no doubt that the Hawaiian Islands are absolutely paradise. And while the entire state is full of amazing places to discover, there is one spot that has it all; located on the southeastern tip of Oahu – Hawaii’s most populous island – Makapu’u is an absolute dream.
This magical spot is home to one of Oahu’s most popular hikes for visitors and locals alike - as well as some of the best views you’ll find anywhere on the island.

The short and sweet hike is fully paved, gaining approximately 500 feet in elevation over the course of a mile, with stunning panoramic views the entire journey of not only Oahu's southeastern and windward coasts, but the vast Pacific Ocean.
This magical spot is home to one of Oahu’s most popular hikes for visitors and locals alike - as well as some of the best views you’ll find anywhere on the island.
An offshoot of the trail will lead more experienced hikers down a steep and rocky path to these utterly divine tide pools, perfect for days where you want a little more adventure than nearby beaches typically allow.
After you’re done hiking, it’s time to head to the picturesque Makapu’u Beach. This small stretch of sand visible from the nearby trail provides stunning views of Rabbit Island. But be warned - the undertow here can be intense.
