After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
Nestled on Oahu’s western shore, away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki is the small resort area of Ko Olina. While there are a few resorts here of note, the most well-known is Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa. The resort was designed with families in mind, which is probably why it was recognized as No.1 in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2014 in the category of Top Family Hotel: USA.
With pool parties, movie nights, and a variety of kid’s entertainment as well as an adults-only pool bar, the entire family will be in bliss at Aulani. Unfortunately, it’s expensive. Really expensive. Luckily, there is Makahiki, an on-site restaurant open to both resort guests, tourists not staying at Aulani, and locals. This truly one-of-a-kind restaurant will wow the entire family, and you’ve got to see it to believe it.
Welcome to Makahiki, a remarkable restaurant with a vibrant ambiance sure to satisfy your appetite with fresh, local foods and international flavors with a bountiful feast you won’t find anywhere else.
This casual, family-friendly restaurant was named for the Makahiki season, a traditional celebration of the Hawaiian harvest. The spirit of Makahiki shines through the delectable cuisine and local artwork.
From elegant glass designs to jewel-toned murals depicting the story of Makahiki, the atmosphere will entrance you. As day turns to night, the restaurant’s lighting fades from rose to indigo with the setting of the sun.
You'll find everything from salads, seafood, and sushi to a choice of carving station items, enticing entrees, seasonal fruits and vegetables, house-made desserts, and Hawaiian-inspired beverages on the delectable dinner buffet.
Pancakes, waffles, French toast, island fruits, traditional Asian offerings, house-baked pastries, and a build-your-own omelet bar make this a must-try for kids and adults alike.
In addition to Disney-inspired foods like these adorable Mickey waffles, your kids' favorite characters will drop by for a bit of mealtime fun and live entertainment.
Makahiki is located at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa at 92 Ali’inui Dr, Kapolei, HI 96707. The character breakfast is held from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and dinner is served between 5 and 9 p.m. For more information, click here.
