After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
Whether you live on Oahu or are vacationing in Waikiki, it is a definite fact that the island’s leeward coast is severely underrated. The beautiful windward coast is known for incredible hiking and lush jungle, Honolulu is the center for business and culture, and the north shore is a haven for surfers, but the west coast is often overlooked for other, more accessible parts of the island. It’s a true shame because this slice of coastline is home to some simply stunning landscapes — including this off-the-beaten-path paradise.
Located along Farrington Highway, this 40-acre coastal park is home to a long stretch of fine white sand, crystalline water sure to dazzle you, and a large grassy expanse perfect for a picnic.
Backed by palm trees swaying in the breeze and the Waianae Mountains, Ma’ili stands out in a crowd and is easily one of the most beautiful beaches on the western coast of Oahu and once you visit for yourself, you'll understand.
Swimming is best in the summer and in the winter months, the beach is pounded by high surf. You’ll find two well-known surf spots here: Green Lanterns, found just offshore near the mouth of Ma’ili’ili Stream and Tumbleland, near the center of the beach, but snorkeling and bodyboarding are also popular activities here.
No matter when you visit, you’ll have plenty of space to spread out, between this wide expanse of fine, white sand leading gently towards the vast Pacific Ocean...
...and a huge grassy park that features a walking path, a workout area, campsites, and more. Enjoy a picnic, a game of catch, or simply soak up the sun at this phenomenal beach park.
Don’t want your beach day to end? The sunsets from Ma’ili are truly second to none, and you can even camp right on the beach, as long as you have a permit. There’s no place more beautiful to pitch a tent and spend a weekend.
Far away from the crowds of Waikiki, you'll feel as though you've found a secluded paradise when you visit Ma'ili Beach Park — so, what are you waiting for?
Address: 87-21 Farrington Highway, Waianae, HI 96792
