After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
As the third largest of the Hawaiian Islands, Oahu boasts nearly 230 miles of stunning coastline and more than 100 gorgeous beaches. And while we love Oahu’s most famous beaches as much as the next person — we’re talking Waikiki, Waimea, and Kailua Beaches — sometimes we want to get off the beaten path and enjoy one of the island’s lesser-known stretches of sand. Enter Kualoa Regional Park, an absolute gem that’s perfect for your next beach day.
Nestled along Oahu’s windward coast at the northern end of Kaneohe Bay and backed by the towering, verdant Ko’olau Mountains, Kualoa Regional Park measures in at 153 acres of natural splendor.
Nearly an hour away from Waikiki, you likely won’t find many tourists here, and if you visit during the week, you might feel as though you’ve found your own private paradise.
It doesn’t hurt that the views are simply awe-inspiring. In addition to the beauty of the windward coast, including the Ko’olau Mountains and the coast stretching down to Kaneohe, Kailua, and beyond…
...you will get to witness the ethereal charm that is Mokoli’i, a small offshore island also known as Chinaman’s Hat for its likeness to the Asian conical hat.
With a thin stretch of fine, white sand and mellow turquoise waters — thanks to a large barrier reef approximately a half-mile offshore — we love making a splash in the Pacific Ocean at Kualoa Beach.
While swimming is great, we all know that every perfect beach day involves a little more. Luckily for you, Kualoa Beach is backed by an expansive field of green ideal for picnicking, flying a kite, or playing frisbee, soccer, or football.
So, what are you waiting for? If you haven't made a visit to Kualoa Regional Park in a while, now's your chance. After all, there's little better than spending your entire day relaxing along the Hawaiian coast.
