After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
If there’s one beverage Hawaii is known for, it’s coffee. After all, Hawaii is the only American state with land able to grow coffee. And while we love visiting the Big Island’s famous Kona Coffee farms as much as the next person, we’re pretty enamored with the coffee-centric destinations you’ll find scattered across Hawaii’s other main islands, especially the Honolulu Coffee Experience Center. Ready to learn all about your favorite beverage and get your morning caffeine fix? Let’s go!
Part coffee museum, part sophisticated European bakery, and part bustling coffee shop, anyone who enjoys their daily cup (or three) of coffee will want to plan a visit to the expansive, 9,000-square-foot Honolulu Coffee Experience Center.
Located across the street from the Hawaii Convention Center in downtown Honolulu, the Honolulu Coffee Experience Center is the world’s only multi-dimensional experience of Kona Coffee from farm to cup.
As you walk inside, you’ll be delighted by not only the smell of roasting coffee from the vintage cast-iron roaster that dates all the way back to 1944 in the center of the space but the sheer amount of incredible things you’ll get to experience here.
You can watch a farm to cup video, discover the story of Kona coffee through the eyes of a local artist through a mural and other installations, and watch through the glass walls of The Cupping Room, where coffee is evaluated and baristas are training.
There’s plenty of seating in the open, piazza-style cafe, and you can watch as baristas prepare your favorite coffee beverages behind the counter and bakers work hard to craft delicious treats beyond the glass wall of the Exhibition Bakery.
Made using beans grown at their 75-acre Kona Coffee farm on Hawaii Island, the brews you’ll discover here are sure to satisfy your taste buds, as are the variety of tasty treats and light foods on the menu.
With more than half a dozen varieties of coffees as well as specialty espresso drinks and even tea, you'll endlessly enjoy sitting back with a cup of coffee here — whether you enjoy your coffee black or in latte form.
Don’t forget to leave without stopping by the gift shop, where you will find a variety of coffee beans, mugs, t-shirts, souvenirs, and so, so much more.
So, what are you waiting for? There is absolutely no better way to get your morning caffeine fix or enjoy an afternoon pick-me-up than a visit to the Honolulu Coffee Experience Center. This spot is both educational and delicious!
The Honolulu Coffee Experience Center is open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information about this coffee lover’s destination or to discover Honolulu Coffee Company’s many locations across the islands, click here. Then, consider taking a trip up to Green World Coffee Farms, one of our all-time favorite Oahu destinations for coffee, souvenirs, and so much more.
