After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
As the most isolated population center on earth and a true melting pot of cultures, the Hawaiian Islands are home to some of the world’s greatest cuisine. But in order to taste some of most mouthwatering food Hawaii has to offer, you must be willing to leave the popular resort areas and check out local restaurants. Far from Kailua-Kona on Hawaii’s Big Island, and located in the small residential community of Mountain View is one of our favorite restaurants in Hawaii: Honi Wai Cafe.
Mountain View, located right outside of volcano, is a largely residential community home to nearly 4,000 residents. This census designated place is home to Honi Wai Cafe, charming eatery worthy of a trip. Unfortunately, most people only stop here if they are hungry as they are passing through from Hilo to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, or vice versa.
In addition to scrumptious comfort food, this cafe also offers a menu full of coffee, teas, specialty drinks, and desserts that will pair perfectly with your soup, sandwich, or salad.
While this is undoubtedly a wonderful spot to stop on your way to or from the National Park, it is also worthy of a drive in itself. What are you waiting for?
Honi Wai Cafe is located at 17-937 Volcano Rd, Mountain View, HI 96771, and is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cozy eatery is closed Sundays.
