Hawaii’s Haunted Plantation Village Is The Ultimate Halloween Attraction

Hawaii Plantation Village is an outdoor history museum that tells the story of the island’s sugar cane workers and life on the planation circa 1850 to 1950, as well as the history of immigration to Hawaii. The village features restored buildings, replicas of various plantation structures, and a few ghosts as well.

Yes, you heard that right. Hawaii Plantation Village is haunted… and not just at night, or during the month of October. Legitimately haunted. Check out this video from Honolulu Magazine about the village’s most permanent residents.

Of the village’s 25 plantation houses, approximately half of them are legitimately haunted. The village has been featured in a Ghost Hunters episode, as well as on the Travel Channel.

With such a supernatural presence, there is no question as to why they would transform the village into a haunted village each October. This traditional-style haunted attraction draws from the already paranormal activity at the village. Throwing together some creepy music, strobe lights, eerie mist and at least 50 costumed actors is all you need to make this haunted plantation a true success.

According to Planation Village staff, approximately 15 to 20 actors at the Haunted Plantation have quit throughout the ten years the attraction has been open – and now, actors are not allowed to work in the houses by themselves due to supernatural activity.

A few years ago, in the Portuguese house, an actor reported strange bruising on her leg – as though somebody, or something, had grabbed her. Another actor claimed to feel pressure on her neck, barely being able to breathe in the Okinawan house.

The Haunted Plantation will be open October 23, 24, 25, 30 and 31 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Admission is $15, and the haunted village is not recommended for children under 13 years old, pregnant women, or people with heart conditions.
