After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
Maui’s Road to Hana is perhaps the most popular scenic drive on the island – and possibly all of Hawaii. This infamous 64.4-mile highway stretches from Kahului to Hana is popular not for the destination – Hana Town – but for the incredible journey it takes to get there. The highway passes over 59 bridges and features a whopping 620 turns, and many tourists turn around as soon as they make it to Hana, perhaps only stopping at Hasegawa General Store, the oldest general store in the Aloha State.
But what if we told you there was an eatery so phenomenal you absolutely must stop while in Hana? Located on the beautiful and remote Hana Ranch is an unassuming food truck that serves one of the best burgers you’ll find in Hawaii.
This is Hana Burger, and it is an absolute must-visit if you’re driving the famous Hana Highway.
There is no dish more classically American than the hamburger, and nowhere better to enjoy a mouthwatering burger than this remote food truck located on the Hana Ranch.
Utilizing ingredients harvested from the ranch’s organic farm, catch from local fishermen, and fresh, local, Hana Ranch grass-fed beef, Hana Burger isn’t your typical food truck. We wouldn’t expect it to be, though, as the food truck is a sister operation to Hana Ranch Provisions in Paia and led by chef Jon Watson, a former Californian, farmer, and brilliant chef.
The menu features a fresh fish sandwich, farm salads, house-made pickles and taro chips, fresh fruit smoothies, and, of course, a variety of mouthwatering burgers. The signature Hana Burger is made from grilled grass-finished beef, and is absolutely mouthwatering.
All items are grab-and-go, and can be enjoyed at the nearby picnic tables overlooking the ranch and the vast Pacific Ocean. You can also grab fresh seasonal produce and merchandise from the nearby Farm Stand.
Guests can also learn more about organic farming and the ranch’s sustainable approach to agriculture on a 45-minute walking tour around the 12-acre certified organic farm. Tours are offered at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Admission is $15 per person and includes samples of fresh produce.
