The Hawaiian Islands are certainly home to some incredible restaurants, and while the cuisine is certainly important, we’re also obsessed with ambiance. From upscale beachfront restaurants located within luxury resorts to charming little cafes in Hawaii’s small towns, you’ll find countless restaurants with mouthwatering food and amazing atmospheres. This gem that opened last year, however, has quickly become one of our new favorites and you’ll want to try it for yourself.
Opened late 2018 in the Lau Hala Shops that once housed the Kailua Macy’s is Goen Dining + Bar, the latest concept restaurant from famous Hawaii chef, Roy Yamaguchi.
Occupying a 3,500 square foot space, Goen Dining + Bar has room for everyone, with 2,500-square-feet inside and another 1,000-square-feet in outdoor space facing the parking lot, seating a total of approximately 100 at tables and in the bar.
The menu showcases Hawaii’s vibrant local flavors and serves a mix of small-bite appetizers, salads, and specialty sushi rolls alongside more substantial main dishes like chicken, pastas, steak, salmon, and other fresh market catches.
Local meats and fish are grilled over kiawe wood, fresh local produce fills the salads, and creative sushi rolls offer guests a dining experience they could only expect from Roy Yamaguchi.
The menu changes with the seasons, but you can always expect quality, delicious dishes with an innovate flare. Will you order the Goen house noodles, made with chicken broth, opo squash, rice noodles, and rotating sides, or the Kailua Roll, made with enoki, yamagobo, cucumber, avocado, spicy garbanzo, bubu arare, and Tokyo negi?
No matter what your order at Goen Dining + Bar, you can bet that you'll leave feeling full, happy, and totally satisfied. You're missing out if you haven't tried this new spot yet.
Goen Dining + Bar is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for lunch and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for dinner. For more information, visit their website or follow them on Facebook. Have you been to Goen yet? Have you at least added it to your Aloha State dining bucket list?
