She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
There are few things more synonymous with the Hawaiian Islands than breathtaking ocean views, phenomenal hiking trails, and tropical gardens full of breathtaking plants. If you’re looking for all of these things and more, there is one spot you absolutely must visit on the island Oahu. Welcome to Kaneohe’s Friendship Garden, a breathtaking garden home to a stunning little path that will make you feel as though you’ve been transported into the pages of your favorite childhood storybook.
Located high above Kaneohe on Oahu’s stunning windward coast, this trail meanders its way through a 10-acre hiking area in a serene, lush forest.
Measuring in at less than half a mile, the lightly trafficked lower loop is an idyllic trail to complete on a warm summer day when you’re short on time but don’t want to sacrifice views.
From the many lookouts found along the trail, you will find sweeping panoramic views of Kaneohe Bay, the Marine Corps Base, Kailua, and Lanikai. You can also see all the way to Chinaman’s Hat to the north…
The trail to this point features a steep climb and rock scrambling, so it should only be attempted by experienced hikers.

If you plan on tackling the upper loop, keep an eye on the weather, because the dirt trail becomes exponentially more difficult if it has been raining.
Along the path, you will discover groves of bamboo, banyan, and macadamia trees. The garden is also home to a Japanese-style tea house, stone lantern, pavilion, and a set of lava stone platform steps.
Friendship Garden is located at 45-219 Kokokahi Pl, Kaneohe, HI 96744, and is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Visit their website for more information.
