The Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve in Hawaii is a must-see, with turquoise waters, white sand beaches, and plenty of room to move around. But not many people know about the lookout trail within the preserve! If you have a chance to look around before you settle into the gorgeous beach for the day, make sure to check out the Hanauma Bay Lookout Trail in Hawaii.

One of our favorites? The Hanauma Bay Natural Preserve. And while this is an incredible spot — it’s been rated one of the best beaches in the world — it’s no surprise that this location draws in quite a crowd.
The beach itself is legendary, offering world-class snorkeling in a unique marine ecosystem in the state park.
Because the water and the beaches are the main attractions, many people forgo exploring the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve on foot. There are many great trails nearby, but the Hanauma Bay Lookout Trail is the best.

The Hanauma Bay Lookout Trail is an easy out-and-back trail that offers spectacular views.
Climbing just 183 feet in elevation, you’ll nevertheless get high above the coastline and be treated to spectacular ocean views. And the trail itself is pretty well maintained.
You can also walk down to the beach if you want to descend down to the sand. Or just hang out at the lookout and soak in the view. Keep your eyes peeled for the common marine wildlife that may be swimming nearby!
There is plenty of parking at the parking lot for Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve.
It’s a $3 parking lot fee and $25 per person to enter the park, although residents, military, and children under 12 are all free. If the parking lot for Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is closed, you can also park at Koko Head.
If you want a slightly more challenging hike, combine this trail with Koko Head Stairs, which is located close nearby.
This is a great hike with the whole family on your next beach day. Complete the walk before you swim and cool off in the beautiful water of Hanauma Bay.
The views on this trail are well worth the effort.
