With more than 10 years of experience as a professional writer, Megan holds a degree in Mass Media from her home state of Minnesota. After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
From sushi to saimin and Korean barbecue to Asian fusion cuisine, the Hawaiian Islands are undoubtedly home to some of the best Asian food in the country — after all, Hawaii is home to various Asian influences and is closer to Asia than the rest of America. While there is no way to feature all of the fantastic Asian eateries our islands have to offer, this Asian fusion spot on Oahu’s west shore is one of our favorites and we think you should add it to your dining bucket list.
Tucked away off-the-beaten-path in Kapolei Commons, Duck Butt Grill, more commonly known as DB Grill, has quickly become a local favorite since it opened two years ago by the owners of Kaka’ako’s Cafe Duck Butt.
Boasting an expansive, double-height dining room and bar with combined seating for at least fifty people as well as large picture windows that give the restaurant an airy feel, this interpretation of a modern Asian bistro impresses as soon as you walk in.
From crispy mandoo, kimchee pancakes, and spicy Korean chicken wings to Thai fried rice, Ed’s signature Kalbi, and pork belly wraps, the menu is designed for sharing. Be sure to bring your friends.
You’ll also find Korean tacos, fresh poke, and kimchee fries as well as craft cocktails and Asian craft beers, all handpicked by DB Grill’s mixologist.
Add in friendly and fast service as well as televisions perfect for watching sports, and it’s easy to see how DB Grill has become one of our favorite west side hangouts.
DB Grill is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. For more information, visit their website or follow them on Facebook. Have you ever been to this unique eatery before? If so, share your favorite dish with us in the comments below!
