As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Celebrating Christmas without snow or cold weather may seem weird for some, but it’s normal practice in Hawaii, and we certainly make up for a lack of snow with incredible Christmas displays, events, and festivities. While you’ll find destinations across the Aloha State that get decked out during the holiday season, there’s one historic hotel that truly stands out in a crowd.
Welcome to the Moana Surfrider! This Westin Resort & Spa is truly something special, and not just because the hotel and grounds are positively stunning — especially during the holidays.
The property — which was built more than a century ago in an Italian Renaissance style — features not only a rich sense of heritage and history but also aloha spirit and Hawaiian hospitality that welcomes you in and makes you feel as though you’re royalty.
No detail was spared in the construction (and subsequent renovations) of this iconic Hawaiian hotel and it shows in everything from the well-manicured gardens and incredible front porch to the tastefully decorated guest rooms and everything in between.

To celebrate the season, the property is illuminated with more than 10,000 flickering lights inside and out.
In the grand entrance, you will discover a beautifully-decorated Christmas tree that transforms the lobby into a wintry wonderland. Eight additional trees are on display throughout the Moana Surfrider in the common areas and picturesque courtyard.
The property’s signature pillars are wrapped in more than 700 feet of garland and you will discover that red and white poinsettias adorn many of the property’s flower beds. While the decor attracts the attention of the guests, you don’t need to stay at the hotel to enjoy the breathtaking decor.
The Beachhouse at the Moana offers an enchanting Christmas-themed afternoon tea on the veranda every afternoon December 10 through 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. You can also attend a Christmas brunch buffet for a unique way to celebrate.
Whether you opt for an overnight stay during the Christmas season or just a visit for afternoon tea, you'll be enchanted by the way the Moana Surfrider transforms into a tropical holiday fantasy each December.
