The Hawaiian Islands are undoubtedly home to countless charming coastal towns, from Oahu’s North Shore to Hawaii Island’s Kailua-Kona and everywhere in between, Hawaii’s coastal towns are absolutely incredible. There is one town, however, that might just be the most charming town in all of the Aloha State. Venture to guess what town we’re talking about?
Located on the southern coast of Kauai between Waimea and Koloa is Hanapepe, one of the islands’ best-kept secrets. This little beach town is home to 2,600 residents and is often referred to as "Kauai’s Biggest Little Town."
Once one of Kauai’s largest communities, you may find that not much has changed over the last century in Hanapepe. Its historic, plantation style buildings, however, are now home to charming shops, eateries and a surprising amount of art galleries.
Nestled along the Hawaiian coast with the Pacific Ocean to the south and the mountains to the north, the land surrounding the small town is full of gems just waiting to be discovered — from the lush mountains...
With the greatest concentration of artists on the island, Hanapepe is big on charm. Every Friday night from 5 to 9 p.m., local art studios keep their doors open late for Friday Art Night. Some artists sit on the sidewalk to paint or display their recent work while local performers play Hawaiian music.
Perhaps the most amazing thing about Hanapepe? The small town served as the inspiration for the town featured in the Disney classic Lilo & Stitch. How amazing is that?
Oh, and if that isn't charming enough, Hanapepe is home to the always-enchanting Hanapepe Swinging Bridge, a magnificent attraction that draws crowds from all over.
