With more than 10 years of experience as a professional writer, Megan holds a degree in Mass Media from her home state of Minnesota. After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
I think we can all agree that the Hawaiian Islands are home to some mighty mouthwatering cafes and restaurants, and if I’m being honest, my personal Aloha State dining bucket list seems to be expanding at a rate I’ll never be able to keep up with. No matter what time of day you find yourself wandering around Waikiki, you’ll want to stop by this cozy little cafe that will make you feel right at home and serves some delicious — and varied — food, from taro bagels to pasta and everything in between.
Welcome to Bogart’s Cafe, a charming neighborhood eatery tucked away at the base of Diamond Head in Honolulu. Just outside Waikiki, the small, 800-square-foot cafe nestled in an inconspicuous strip mall was opened twenty years ago by Maria Barnette, who had no kitchen experience at the time.
Since then, Bogart’s has become a local favorite for breakfast and lunch and is known for its local take on classic dishes: think taro banana pancakes, waffles topped with haupia sauce, crab cake and avocado sandwiches, and fried rice.
Whether you’re looking for something savory or sweet, you’ll find it on the menu at Bogart’s Cafe. From french toast, bagels, and acai bowls to omelettes, sandwiches, salads, and even pasta, there’s something for everyone here.
In the cafe’s early days, Bogart’s served bagels, cold sandwiches, and tasty coffee, but has since expanded its offerings to include a little bit of everything. With the recent addition of a dinner menu, there are nearly 90 dishes to choose from at Bogart’s — not including drinks!
Speaking of dinner, the Italian-inspired menu is sure to satisfy. The pasta is not only made in-house from scratch and is made using authentic flavors and high-quality ingredients, but Barnette learned how to cook these dishes in Florence, Italy where she worked in a restaurant kitchen for five weeks.
While Bogart’s has certainly changed over the years, loyal patrons still feel right at home here, and with just one visit, we’re sure you’ll be a loyal customer, too.
So, what are you waiting for? Stop by in the morning for a cup of coffee and a breakfast bagel or visit for pasta and a cocktail in the evening. Either way, you won’t be disappointed.
Bogart’s Cafe is open daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. for breakfast favorites, and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. for acai bowls, drinks, and salads. They also recently started serving dinner Wednesday through Sunday from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, visit their website. Have you ever been to this Waikiki cafe before?
