With more than 10 years of experience as a professional writer, Megan holds a degree in Mass Media from her home state of Minnesota. After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
Picturesque landscapes, phenomenal beaches, and vibrant sunsets are plentiful throughout the Hawaiian Islands — but the islands are also home to hot, hot weather, practically year round. Whether you’ve spent your day hiking or hanging out at the beach, there’s nothing better than cooling down with one of Hawaii’s favorite frozen desserts. While you’ll find mouthwatering ice cream, shave ice, and other sweet treats across the Hawaiian Islands, our current favorite dessert is the banana-made frozen goodness served at Banan.
This Oahu-based food truck transforms local bananas and other island-grown ingredients into delicious dairy-free soft serve that’s sure to cool you down on a hot Hawaiian day and satisfy your sweet tooth at the same time.
Founded by four lifelong friends, and Punahou graduates, in 2014 with a single food truck, Banan has since grown to include four convenient locations in Honolulu: near the beach in Waikiki, in the Kahala Mall, near the University of Hawaii, and their original food truck, which is parked near Diamond Head.
Banan serves up a mighty delicious — and healthy — alternative to ice cream and frozen yogurt. It’s vegan, paleo, gluten-free, and, most importantly, scrumptious.
Utilizing fresh, wholesome, and simple ingredients grown on the islands, the Banan founders strive to inspire a culture focused on agriculture, connecting their customers and the communities they serve to the natural world.
Local frozen bananas are blended to become thick, creamy, and sweet, much like soft-serve. You’ll find this cold, banana-based treat in a variety of flavors, including acai, chocolate macadamia, and lilikoi. Their greens flavor is made with bananas, ginger, mint, and spirulina while their Olena flavor combines bananas turmeric, ginger, and black pepper.
After deciding on a flavor, choose whether you want a cup, bowl, or papaya boat, and add a variety of toppings, including pineapple, coconut flakes, papaya, honey, puffed quinoa, and, of course, sliced bananas.
Make your own flavor combination, or choose from one of their signature creations. Either way, there’s no better way to cool down on a warm Hawaiian afternoon after a long hike or a day of catching waves.
