You can’t get much more American than hanging out at the beach, barbecuing with friends and family and celebrating the birth of our great nation on the Fourth of July – except watching a dramatic fireworks display that lights up the sky. And there’s no doubt about it that Hawaii locals love a good fireworks show, whether it’s an official celebration or setting off a few fireworks in your backyard. As the Fourth of July quickly approaches, you might be wondering, “Where can I watch incredible fireworks near me?” Well, these magnificent Independence Day celebrations across the Hawaiian Islands, from Kauai to Hawaii Island, are sure to be even better than those from 2015 and 2016.
The day begins with the "Salute to Our Veterans" Hilo Bay Blast 5K Run/Walk at Lili’uokalani Gardens 7 a.m., followed by kids activities, a burger cook-off, car show, and live music. The Hawaii County Band will perform in their annual Fourth of July concert at the Mo’oheau Bandstand at 7 p.m., followed by fireworks over the bay at 8 p.m.
2. Family Fourth & Fireworks Extravaganza at Waikoloa
The day starts with free entertainment, carnival games and contests, balloon twisting, and all your festival food favorites - including cotton candy and popcorn - at the Great Waikoloa Rubber Duckie Race + Benefit, followed by an awe-inspiring fireworks show over Waikoloa Bowl at 8 p.m.
Open to all military-affiliated personnel and their sponsored guests, the celebration begins at 3:30 p.m. with a petting zoo, Xpress Train, games, balloon twisting, airbrush tattoo artists, magicians, jugglers, stage games, eating contests, and so much more. The live musical entertainment begins at 5 p.m., and the fireworks are set to go off at 9 p.m.
The only fireworks show to launch from three separate platforms, Ala Moana Center celebrates its 26th Annual 4th of July Celebration + Fireworks with four days of exclusive savings, live entertainment and a chance to win two roundtrip tickets to anywhere in the U.S. The celebration culminates with a massive fireworks show on the 4th at 8:30 a.m. at Ala Moana Beach Park - the largest fireworks display in the state of Hawaii, and an absolute blast!
This fireworks show launches from a mobile barge floating near Kailua Beach, and is an absolutely magnificent display. The annual tradition has been going strong since 1948, and has only gotten better with time: the Twilight airshow was added to the annual programming in 2000, and this year, the event will feature a new show, Skydive Hawaii Presents Colonel John Bates and the Flying Leathernecks. Earlier in the day, you can check out the 71st annual Kailua Independence Day Parade scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Open to Department of Defense cardholders and their sponsored guests, this all-day event at Weyand Field features concerts, rides, games, food, and fireworks. Special musical guests include Tyler Farr and Natalie Imbruglia, and fireworks are set to go off at 8:30 p.m. on the Fourth.
With live music, food and a fireworks show, Oahu’s famous Turtle Bay Resort is sure to be bustling this Fourth of July! The magnificent fireworks display over the island’s north shore is set to begin at 8 p.m., and after 2 p.m., you will find a variety of food trucks from Eat The Street, as well amazing live music and entertainment.
At 6 p.m. July 4th, hang out on the Mighty Mo’s pier for an Independence Day spectacular. Bring your own food, blankets, beach chairs, and drinks and listen to live entertainment, starting at 6 p.m. Fireworks start at 9 p.m., and tickets are required. A free shuttle service from the Pearl Harbor Visitors Center is available for those without base access.
As the self-proclaimed largest aerial fireworks show on Kauai, this 27th annual event will feature plenty of live music, dance, and food starting at 4 p.m., followed by a fireworks show at 8:30 p.m. after the sun goes down - choreographed to a 20-minute soundtrack. The event will also feature keiki games, water slides, bounce houses, a silent auction, crafts, and a variety of food options.
From 4 to 9:30 p.m., head to Kauai’s western shores for cultural demonstrations, exhibits, crafts, a plantation museum, game booths, and, of course, a fireworks show accompanied by live music. This alcohol and drug-free event is free and open to the public, as long as you don’t try to bring a cooler! For information, please call 808.634.5248.

13. Lahaina Town Action Committee’s 4th of July Celebration
The entire town of Lahaina will be abuzz with celebration on the fourth – from live music at a variety of venues throughout town to holiday specials at local restaurants and shops. But the real celebration starts at 8 p.m., when fireworks are set off a barge offshore Front Street.
The fireworks show is the finale of the annual Lanai Pineapple Festival, which will take place Saturday, July 1 from 3 - 9 p.m. The free event features crafts, games, food booths, a pineapple cook-off and live entertainment, as well as a fireworks show at 9 p.m. For those visiting from Maui, there will be a special 9:30 p.m. Expeditions Ferry back to Lahaina from Manele. In addition to these official fireworks shows and Independence Day celebrations across the state, many Hawaiians will partake in setting off fireworks of their own, and I’m sure the sky will be aglow for many hours this Saturday to celebrate the founding of our nation. What are your plans for this Fourth of July? Are there any official fireworks shows we missed?
