She is passionate about animal rescue and live music - traveling across the country to see a favorite band is a pretty regular occurrence! Being out hiking in the woods enjoying the scenery with her beloved dogs is another favorite hobby, and also checking out the Pokemon Go scene in whatever city she happens to be in at any given time (coffee and dog leash in hand). There are a multitude of great weekend trips in Georgia, so it should come as no surprise that some wonderful places fall through the cracks. If you ask us, Columbus is one of the most underrated cities in the Peach State. Nicknamed the Fountain City, this place has it all, with history, delicious restaurants, great shops, and natural beauty. Here are a few of our favorite attractions in Columbus, Georgia:
If you want to get out and stretch your legs, the 15-mile Columbus Riverwalk is a great linear park that runs alongside the Chattahoochee River. It's a great area to walk or ride your bike and enjoy the scenery.
The National Infantry Museum is one of Georgia's most underrated museums. The 190,000-square-foot museum catalogs the history of the National Infantry dating all the way back to the American Revolution.

Another great military museum in Columbus is the National Civil War Naval Museum. It's got plenty of equipment from both the Union and Confederate Navies, including uniforms and weapons. It's also home to the remains of two of the Confederate Navy's vessels.

Walking through the city's historic district is also a treat. The Springer Opera House is one of the oldest theaters in Georgia, having opened in 1871. It's a great spot to catch a show.
