South Georgia tends to not get a lot of love. Whether you’re looking for charming small towns, beautiful natural scenery, or fun attractions, you’ll find plenty to love in this sprawling region. The Okefenokee Swamp is about as far into South Georgia as you can get. This magical place is considered one of the Seven Wonders of Georgia. It spans more than 438,000 acres across the Georgia-Florida state line and is the largest blackwater swamp in North America. The ecosystem here is unique and supports countless plant and animal species. You'll find a variety of great camping options nearby, and if you don't feel up to roughing it in a tent but don't own a camper of your own, RV Share is a great option.

3. Jimmy Carter National Historical Park: Plains
Jimmy Carter National Historical Park, 300 N Bond St, Plains, GA 31780, USA
Probably the most famous person from Georgia is Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States. He hails from one of the tiniest towns in South Georgia, Plains. If you're a fan of President Carter's, or simply a lover of history, you'll find tons of things to do in Plains, GA. From Carter's boyhood home to his high school, there's a lot to see here.
This one's perhaps best paired with a wonderful day trip to nearby General Coffee State Park. The Georgia Museum of Agriculture is home to some wonderful historical exhibits. Agriculture is such a rich part of the state's heritage, particularly in the southern region, where farming is still a major industry today. You can learn all about this vital industry at this charming museum, which is also home to the only steam-powered train in regular operation in Georgia.
5. Seminole State Park: Donalsonville
Seminole State Park, 7870 State Park Rd, Donalsonville, GA 39845, USA
Seminole State Park may not be a household name, but it's one of the most secluded state parks in Georgia. It's perfect for when you're seeking a quiet day away. Lake Seminole is a massive reservoir within the park, and whether you fancy a bit of recreation on the lake, relaxation on the sandy beach, or want to explore the trails, you'll find somethig to love about this great park in Donalsonville.
6. WWII Flight Training Museum: Douglas
WWII Flight Training Museum, 3 Airport Cir, Douglas, GA 31535, USA
If you like to enjoy a bit of education with your attractions, you'll love a visit to the World War II Flight Training Museum in Douglas. The museum is in what was once an old army barracks that was utilized as a pilot school to quickly train pilots for service during World War II. There are some great exhibits here that provide a fascinating look at an aspect of the war that many may not have considered.
7. Pinball Palace: Brunswick
Pinball Palace, 3303 Hopkins Ave, Brunswick, GA 31520, USA
Okay, I'm cheating a little bit with this one, as many consider the Golden Isles to be a completely separate region from the more inland South Georgia. However, it's one of my favorite attractions in the Peach State and it's definitely in the lower portion of Georgia, geographically-speaking, so I'm including it! The Pinball Palace is home to over 150 arcade machines and it's a must-visit if you're looking to feel a bit of nostalgia.
