Many people who visit our great state tend to stay in the more obvious places–Savannah, Atlanta, etc,. However, there is so much more to Georgia than meets the eye. In fact we have a ton of underrated, undervalued, and under appreciated cities that are just begging to be explored or adventured through. Here are a few of them, with reasons why you should plan a visit.
Duluth, Georgia has become a clean, friendly, and affordable place to live in the state of Georgia. It’s the perfect city for those who are looking to be close to Atlanta, but still maintain that small town charm. When you visit Duluth, you can learn all about the important role the railroad played in building the town by visiting the Southeastern Railway Museum, or learn all about the city at the Duluth History Museum.
Calhoun is one of the most affordable places to live in the state of Georgia, so that alone makes it worth visiting. However, you can always count on stellar weather when you visit Calhoun, as it stays fairly moderate all year round. When you visit Calhoun, make sure you take a stroll downtown and visit the old GEM Theater, which opened in 1927 and was once a thriving movie and performing arts venue before it closed.
Just outside of Atlanta, you’ll find the beautiful city of Smyrna, a city which really has become something special over the years. Visitors tend to explore the burgeoning culinary scene and really tickle their tastebuds with the restaurants Smyrna has to offer. Or, visitors can hop on the famed Silver Comet Trail and take off for 61.5 miles for a truly scenic adventure.
The city of Bainbridge is worthy of being mentioned because it’s not only filled with beautiful weather practically all year round, but the cost of living is also much less than the national average. But that doesn’t mean Bainbridge doesn’t put a lot into their city. Just taking a stroll downtown and through Willis Park will give you enough small town charm to make you want to visit again.
Valdosta has always been the type of city that brings community together and puts their residents first. Wandering around this city you’ll be able to appreciate all the architecture and charm that Valdosta holds, not to mention recognize just how rich this city’s history is.
While many people tend to stick to Savannah for their coastal preference, if you travel just a bit farther, you'll find the beautiful and historic town of St. Mary's. Take in all the sights and sounds that this city has to offer, while also grubbing on some delicious seafood and sharing in stories with the locals.
Americus, Georgia is absolutely worth visiting the next time you’re planning a trip. This is easily one of the most underrated cities in the state, with their small town vibe but huge social events and traditional home cooked culinary delights. Walk around on a sunny, warm afternoon after grabbing an ice cream cone from the local shop, and enjoy the small town pride and rich culture that Americus has to offer.
Blairsville is stunning. It is a majestic spot in Georgia that deserves recognition. Not only can you travel the hills and mountains for some insanely marvelous views from the top, but you also can appreciate a cool, mountain town with charm and integrity.
Ball Ground, Georgia should be your number one stop once the weather chances and the leaves and trees start welcoming springtime. Take a trip to the famed Gibbs Garden for a magical experience with nature that you'll never forget.
Visiting Dahlonega can often feel like you're taking a trip back in time with all their rich culture and history. As the city to the gold mining rush many moons ago, visitors can come to learn all about what brought this city to be, while also antique shopping and supporting the local social scene.
Did you know that Tifton, Georgia is known as the Friendly City? It is, which makes it a prime place to visit in Georgia. If you are looking for supreme southern hospitality, not to mention the quaint charm of a true Georgia town, then this is your spot.
