When people plan weekend getaways in Georgia, they often think first of our larger cities, like Savannah, Atlanta, and Augusta. These are all great places to escape for a few days. But some of the small towns in Georgia are also perfect retreats! One of the best is the growing town of Senoia, Georgia. This place has a population of over 5,000, but you’ll find a surprising number of attractions here that make it ideal for a two-day excursion. Even as a small town, there are plenty of things to do. If you're wondering, How far is Senoia, Georgia from me, this town is located about 40 miles southwest of Atlanta. The town's name is pronounced by locals as "suh-noy."
The 2011 remake of the film Footloose was partially filmed here, as were scenes from Fried Green Tomatoes. However, the hit television show The Walking Dead is the most famous production to use Senoia as a home base.

There are walking tours available if you'd like to see some of the spots where the show was filmed, such as the tour offered by DTours, The Walking Dead: Private Film Locations Tour of Senoia. You can also visit The Woodbury Shoppe to pick up merchandise related to The Walking Dead, including a variety of clothing, gift items, and collectibles from the show.
The fun doesn't end there, though! Fans of The Walking Dead have to check out Nic and Norman's, a delicious grill owned by Greg Nicotero, a producer of the show, and Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl Dixon.

A shop with plenty of Georgia-grown items is The Classic Market. You can find everything here, from Georgia wines, Georgia coffee, or locally-crafted gifts. It's the perfect spot to find a souvenir or perhaps for some holiday gift list shopping.

History enthusiasts will love a visit to the Senoia Area Historical Society. Located in a historic home, the central hall and five rooms are full of memorabilia and exhibits that bring to life the fascinating story of Senoia and the surrounding area.

If you'd like something a little more active, there's nothing more exciting than a day at the races. The Senoia Raceway is a 3/8-mile dirt track that hosts car races throughout the year.

Some peaceful time out in nature can even be enjoyed with a stroll around Senoia's Marimac Lake. It's part of a beautiful park offering walking trails and fishing year-round (catch and release only, with a license).
No matter what you do during your days in Senoia, you'll need a comfortable place to lay your head at night. The historic Veranda Inn Bed and Breakfast is a 1906 Greek Revival mansion that's just a block off Main Street.
